Aurora on October 21, 2001

This was the first aurora where I could visually detect green and red color.
It was very vivid. I removed the camera from the telescope and placed it
on observing partner, Rodger Blake's tripod. What a treat it was.
This image was taken at approximately 10:45 p.m. EDT. The tip of my AP
130EDT can be seen in the lower right. The colors were very vivid and were
pierced by the bright pillars of white light you can just barely make out in
this image. Click here for another image taken
moments later.
